Happy New Year.. or is it?



It’s just another month, another day, another season, another step in our journey.

I prefer to think about what our natural behaviours should be according to the seasons.

If we still lived in caves, we would be hunkering down to survive the winter.

So, staying in, only going out during the day, staying warm, eating food that has been stored or has just been harvested.

I know we are a long way from that now but how can we tune in to it a bit.


Maybe it’s ok to allow ourselves to rest and recover during the shortest days of the year!

It is a natural way for our bodies and minds to reset themselves.

How about instead of trying to create anew we focus on how we can support who we are right now, how we feel right now.

What small actions can we take to support our physical and mental health, our life choices, our ambitions?


Think about what can we add instead of removing or denying or eliminating.

Add more veg, add more warm water or herbals teas, add more daylight movement, add more rest, add more quality sleep.

Do things that help you feel better today.


A great vegetable to add in right now is cabbage, which is ready to eat in winter. It is full of fibre that is wonderful for gut health. It helps to get the bowel moving which is just what we need after the celebrations. All of the cabbage family are great including Kale, Cauliflower and guess what…..Brussels Sprouts!!!

You see they are worthwhile and do have a role to play.


My favourite way to eat it is chopped thinly, steam in a pan then drain off the water and fry it till slightly coloured and drizzle with honey to finish. Add some bacon or chorizo if you like!
